Virtual Workshop: «Solid Waste sector and opportunities for Public Private Partnership»

On February 9th 2022, from 2 pm to 5 pm, Kyiv time zone, a virtual workshop titled “Solid Waste sector and opportunities for Public Private Partnership” will take place.

The event will be hosted online, using remote means of communication.

The languages of the event are Ukrainian and English (translation will be provided).

To facilitate the development of the PPP mechanism in the Solid Waste sector and to increase the institutional capacity of PPP project initiators from the public sector, the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, together with the SO “PPP Agency” and with the support of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Public-Private Infrastructure Advisory Facility (PPIAF) is organising a workshop titled “Solid Waste sector and opportunities for Public Private Partners”.

During the event, the leading experts and specialists of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) of the World Bank Group will explain the peculiarities of the PPP mechanism in the Solid Waste sector and present international experience in the implementation of PPP projects, including solid waste to energy PPP.

The first part of the workshop is devoted to the developing and financing Waste Management Systems in Ukraine. The key speaker will be Pierre Casabonnet, Senior Operations Officer, IFC, World Bank Group. He will present the following topics:

  • Waste sector value chain in Ukraine.
  • IFC and Waste Sector in Ukraine.
  • Solid Waste case studies. 

The second part of the event will focus on the international experience and features of the PPP mechanism in the Solid Waste sector. Key discussion questions:

  • What are the new opportunities for Public Private Partnership in solid waste sector?
  • Belgrade solid waste to energy PPP, what were the key challenges?
  • What are the useful approaches to procure and finance solid waste PPP projects?
  • What has been the experience of developing countries in comparison to developed EU countries?
