Webinar on the preparation and implementation of PPP projects aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals

The webinar will take place on the 25th of May, 2021, from 10:00 to 13:00.

The event is designed to help representatives of the public sector, who are directly involved in the preparation and management of PPP projects, deepen their knowledge of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in the context of PPP mechanism usage. International experts will illuminate the intricacies of the initiation, preparation and implementation of People-first PPP projects, as well as challenges that participants might face.

This event is part of a Joint Programme “Promoting strategic planning and financing for sustainable development on national and regional levels in Ukraine” which is being undertaken by a group of United Nations agencies at the request of the Government of Ukraine. The Programme is aimed at the optimization of managerial and budgeting efforts on national and regional levels as well as the engagement of new funding sources and increasing the efficiency in resource allocation. This will facilitate the fulfillment of the ambitious long- and medium-term development goals, aligned with the SDGs.

Applying a PPP approach aimed at achieving desirable global results from infrastructure investment and creating “value for people” will allow Ukraine to better align current and future PPP projects with the Sustainable Development Goals set by the Presidential Decree on the Sustainable Development Goals of Ukraine for the period up to 2030.

The UNECE has mobilized top international PPP experts to develop tools facilitating the practical implementation of the People-first approach to PPPs. Among such instruments is the UNECE People-first Infrastructure Evaluation and Rating System (PIERS).

One of the objectives of the UNECE in implementing the Joint Programme is to assist PPP practitioners in Ukraine in applying the People-first PPPs approach and its tools.

As a first step towards achieving the Programme goals, a discussion on the improvement of PPP legislation of Ukraine to fulfill the Sustainable Development Goals was held on the 30th of March 2021.

The training webinar on the preparation and implementation of PPP projects aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals is the second practical step towards the achievement of the aforementioned goals.

The main objectives of the webinar are to:

1. Help the participants deepen their understanding of the ‘People-first’ approach for aligning PPP projects with the SDGs;
2. Help the participants gain knowledge and understanding of the UNECE PIERS;
3. Present practical recommendations, tailored to the specificity of the Ukrainian context, on People-first PPP project identification and preparation;
4. Present and discuss practical steps for preparation and implementation of People-first PPP projects in Ukraine by promoting stakeholder engagement and environmental sustainability.

The webinar will be conducted as an interactive online event. The participants will be able to take an active part in the discussion.
